Special Beach (Coastal) Cleanup Plan
Untitled Document
The Plan : Sites : Special Beach Clean Up Home

  1. Set up a program to identify and contact (pre-register) 5,000 volunteers for immediate (within 2 hours) notification of date and time of the Special Beach (Coastal) Cleanup.  To Pre-Register Click Here
  2. Set up pre-planned cleanup locations to cover the entire shoreline of Pinellas County (western only at this time) with qualified site captains and a phone number for volunteer sign up. To view/select a cleanup location Click Here
  3. Provide each pre-registered volunteer with a volunteer registration confirmation number. This number will be used to report availability to the site captain in lieu of name, thereby greatly reducing the reporting time.
  4. Pre-position volunteer support times for the cleanup.
  5. Provide pre-registered volunteers with a bi-monthly update on the shoreline status.
  6. Establish a working plan for the immediate removal of all volunteer collected litter and marine debris.
  7. Coordination with US Coast Guard, Pinellas County Government and pre-registered volunteers as needed.

Note:  We estimate that we will need approximately 2,000 volunteers to cleanup all locations in a 2-hour period.  We need 5,000 volunteers to pre-register because we do not know when (time and date), therefore many willing volunteers may have previous commitments.

This is the only all-volunteer effort that will be done as part of the Pinellas Oil Spill Cleanup. All other efforts will be done by qualified, trained personnel hired by BP.
